Once I started seeing stories of people with hyphens having trouble that was it for me. True or not, the idea that my LEGAL name wouldn't even be trouble-free long enough for me to add my voice to support pseuds...major fail, Google, major fail.

I made sure to leave a very detailed, and very polite but unhappy note in the feedback section when I deleted explaining that forcing people to adhere to a flawed concept of identity wasn't going to do anything but lose them users. Like it already has.

Hyphens are now a warning sign? Sheesh, tell that to my legal name...

That seems really extreme (on Google's part). From what I last heard they were warning people if their Google name was deemed unacceptable by their "standards", which would give people 4 days to change it, or they would lose their G+ account.

As far as I know none of your other Google accounts would be affected (except by the lack of G+ integration).

"Those with suspended Google+ profiles should know that only Google services that require a Plus profile will be inaccessible, while services that don't -- Gmail, Blogger, Docs, and so on -- will still work." (Quote from here.)

I'm definitely going to keep a closer eye on this though.

I'm pretty sure I read that somehow Reader counts as social so you'd lose it if you lost +.

I've been keeping out of these discussions lest someone block me out of spite, but now I'm blocked, I can some out and say yes, that's the position I'm in with my tax name - I don't use the term 'legal name' because under UK law, any name I want to be known by *is* my legal name as long as there is no attempt to defraud.

I know a family that all uses the same hyphenated name. That's the name on the kids' birth certificates, as well as what the parents use. While the parents could revert to their original single names, I suppose, what would the kids do?

I suppose they'd have to mail google some kind of documentation. *sigh*
